- This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
- There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Congrats! One less person left in the lurch.
EDIT: Is it a school I care about?

Actually yeah it's where I thought you already were... I could barely hear anything he was saying, his phone was really acting up. But I think I heard him say something like "first round offers." That surprised me because I thought other people here already were admitted, but regardless, maybe you'll hear something today, tomorrow, or even right now!

lol yeah it was not princeton, but RG you're already been admitted at this place too... are you going to visit all the places you've been admitted to? or are you only considering Cornell until you hear from MIT?

I heard back from UIUC (physics) too - accepted with 11 month fellowship. I guess the financial package is pretty standard.

so, RG, you have some clues as to the quiz's school:
it's not UIUC b/c he said you'd already been admitted there as well before you posted your admittance.
it's not MIT, Princeton, Harvard b/c those wouldn't be his backups and I remember that at some time he posted his non-backup schools and i'm pretty sure they were among them.
he's going into CM so i doubt he could call Cornell a safety, and Cornell contacted everyone else through mail, so i doubt it's them.
so looking at the other schools you applied to and were already accepted at RG, and judging by quiz's obvious affection for the northeast (as well as his earlier comment that he did not apply to UC's), i would finally have to say that my guess for quiz's acceptance is Columbia.
this is a fun game. did i win?

yes, nvan, I knew that it was Columbia ! An ivy league, not in a TOP 10, still a back up sorta for quiz., It is Columbia for sure.
Quiz your secret is NOMORE a secret! hehehe

I was just accepted at Illinois as well. The April open house is more convenient, and I haven't heard anything from UCSB yet. But if I do get into UCSB, I would certainly visit there for sure...
Congrats to everyone with new acceptances

How did you all here from Illinois? Email or snail? Let's chalk up Illinois as another school that I applied to that others have heard from and I have not:
UC Berkeley
UCSB
Cornell
Illinois
I'm starting to think I'm not going to get in any of my top choices.

Where did you apply anyway? (You said "big public universities" at one point). A lot of the big state schools seem to have been silent so far on the physics front (U Colorado, Penn State, and U MD are the ones I've been watching). Give it some time.

It's interesting to look at last year's information at
http://thegradcafe.com to see when what schools let people in. If last year is any indication, now through about March 1 is when things really get rolling.
People might want to post their acceptances/rejections over there too. It's quick. There's no profile. It's completely anonymous.

@grae313
I've never used the forum. I checked it out once... looked kind of empty. Plus, I'm so devoted to this forum, it would be immoral to post elsewhere...
@ RG
It's brilliantly simple.
To see the results. Go to the main page. Click "results" on the side. Type "physics" in the search box. Hit "search". Enjoy. To submit a result, click "Submit your results" at the top.
EDIT:

Stanford two years ago is worse: they sent out rejections on Valentine's Day.

based on last year's info on that site, the second half of February is when the admits happen. Into early march it is about 60/40 rejections/admits, then once you get to mid march it is 95% rejections with the rest being waitlist notifications. Then there are a few last second admits around April 12th as people made last minute decisions and waitlist spots opened up. So basically this is it in the next few weeks. There is an excellent chance that we will have all our admits by March 10th.

MIT! ok, so nevermind about visiting UIUC - I probably won't be. I'll turn down UCSD, UIUC in the next few days. UCSB and Cornell though...they're still in consideration.

I just got UIUC with TA/RA for 11 months...stoked.
did the folks on this thread who got admitted to UIUC get an 11 month fellowship (ie, here's free money, go get drunk or something), or a TA+RA?
Sorry, I'm a bit slow about all these funding things.

They offered me an 11 month fellowship as well, with the option of an additional TA stipend (only for one semester though).

I was confused about their offer a little at first, until I read the letter carefully, and it is just as mrclean explained. It certainly appears to be free money. After the first year, it sounds like we are expected to get funding either through an RA or TA.

I just got accepted to Harvard (astronomy). A faculty member called me. I still cannot believe it....he was supernice, and he was so eager to answer questions. I believe they are calling all the accepted, and waitlisted people.
Best wishes to all of you!
