I have my preference. I am just curious if most physics majors think the same as me.

Family Guy for sure. The Simpsons peaked years ago, they're so 20th century.

definitely Simpsons. They might have peaked years ago, but that peak was so high, that they're still far, far above FG

I agree. Simpsons in the days of Phil Hartman was unstoppable (*sigh*). Family Guy is great, but it still falls beneath the simpsons Sure, today the Simpsons aren't nearly as great as they were ~10 years ago (and I would even say that I find the new episodes of Family Guy funnier than the new episodes of the Simpsons, except for the one where Homer is in a grunge band... lmao) but they're still a force to be reckoned with.
So my top picks are:
1. Simpsons
2. Family Guy
3. Futurama
4. American Dad
5. Aqua Teen
If South Park were to have a rating it would be dead last, right after "Telemundo".

I am sad that you think so poorly of South Park. Maybe I'm a little biased because I'm from South Park.

South Park is definitely the funniest out of all those shows.

It doesn't even deserve capitalization.

You just don't appreciate the genius of the program.

The whole appeal of south park is that it pisses off people who are easily offended by jokes of such genius as:
"*** you, you stupid jew piece of ***."

All I can say to that is:
"shut your *** face, uncle ***. you're a cocksucking, asslicking uncle ***."
Genius

South Park is pretty low brow, but it does have it's moments. There was this great episode where terrorists took over Imaginationland, which is where everything that humans had thought up lived. A suicide bomber runs into imagination land and detonates. Ronald McDonald gets his arm blown off, and the terrorists kill Care Bears by shooting them in the head.
Then the boys meet the Council of the 9 most highly most regarded imaginary characters, including luminaries such as Gandalf, Morpheus, Luke Skywalker, and of course Jesus.
It's a three part episode and a lot of the parody is completely brilliant.

A very cogent argument, fermiboy. But it just doesn't change my opinion.
Now that I'm at 400 everyone should buy me gifts.

South Park usually has many underlying things that makes the show funny. The use of "bad" language and name calling isn't what makes the show genius. Things like what fermiboy just pointed out is what makes the show incredible.

They've been done with more poise elsewhere.

The lack of poise is exactly the point. It's rote anti-intellectualism to ignore the underlying message of a show just because you disagree with the method in which it gets that message across. Witty commentary and poop jokes aren't mutually exclusive.

Fair enough, but it doesn't mean I have to enjoy the show.
