Any other domestic students still waiting to hear back from Penn State? It looks like they sent out another round of rejections today but I still haven't heard anything one way or another.
Re: Decision Dates 2016
I'm still waiting on Penn State as well... What field did you apply for?

Gravitation and cosmology theory

Same here. I'm thinking maybe we're waitlisted? I guess we'll find out before too long.coffee&physics wrote:Gravitation and cosmology theory

Does anybody know what's going on with UT Austin? I've only seen a handful of acceptances on gradcafe, but it seems like it's getting pretty late.

The people who have got an admit from UIUC, did you notice any change in the myillinois webpage?
Re: Decision Dates 2016
I haven't yet heard from TAMU or Arizona State University. I have emailed TAMU and they didn't reply. ASU says they are currently considering my application and that was 6 days back. Haven't heard from them after that. Anybody recently got replies from these two universities, please post.

Who did you email at ASU out of curiosity? I recently tried contacting them and was told that the most current information is on the myasu portal.
Thanks!

It was easily my top choice coming in, but I don't know if I'll accept just yet--their open house is this weekend, so hopefully I'll know by Sunday. I really loved the department at UMass Amherst when I visited last weekend, which will make it a tough decision!

Does accepting a offer implies automatic rejections from others? Please help!
Re: Decision Dates 2016
No, you have to decline their offers.ashishdastro wrote:Does accepting a offer implies automatic rejections from others? Please help!
Yes, but it did take a few days.spectral_flow wrote:The people who have got an admit from UIUC, did you notice any change in the myillinois webpage?
Re: Decision Dates 2016
TAMU informed me that they have sent the first round of acceptances. If their vacancies are not filled then they will consider sending a second round of offers.
Just out of curiosity, did they in the past send a second round of offers? As per the available data on the internet I haven't seen them sending acceptances in April.

So when are you guys going to decline offers?
Re: Decision Dates 2016
Please decline UPenn and Dartmouth if you aren't going to attend. I myself have no plans to attend but for others that is their dream school and many of them are on a waitlist.

I accepted my offer and declined the other yesterday. I know of a few schools that still have open houses this weekend, so I'd imagine they'd start to pour in pretty soon.ashishdastro wrote:So when are you guys going to decline offers?

I have to accept the offer of the University Toledo by April 15 but I am waiting to hear from some by April 15. What should I do? I am thinking to accept Toledo by April 11-12. Is this ok?coffee&physics wrote:I accepted my offer and declined the other yesterday. Re: Decision Dates 2016
Let Toledo know that they are currently your first choice but you need to wait until April 15 to hear back from a few other schools. This will allow them to know to expect your response on April 15. Then, if you don't get into the other programs, accept on April 15 (but not before).ashishdastro wrote:I have to accept the offer of the University Toledo by April 15 but I am waiting to hear from some by April 15. At the same time though, you should contact the other programs to make sure you are still in the running (i.e. not a silent rejection). Ask them if you are on a waitlist and if so, when would you expect to hear back. If all of the schools say you are not on a waitlist and you won't be accepted, then you can accept Toledo's offer as soon as you know this. If they say you might get accepted on, for example, April 18, then you might want to ask Toledo to extend the deadline to April 18 (and tell them this reason).
Re: Decision Dates 2016
I am waiting to hear from TAMU. It is the only place remaining. They said they will review the rest of the applications only if the offers accepted are not sufficient enough to fill their vacancies. That will be after 15th April.
Those who are waiting for TAMU, it is highly unlikely that you will hear from them before 15th April. Personally I feel, looking at the information available on the internet the probability of them sending a second round of offers is practically nil.

ohhh
I am waiting for that one too.
Re: Decision Dates 2016
Please decline your offers or withdraw your applications from Universities you are not planning to attend. This is important for those who haven't got any offers or in s waiting list. Please consider this seriously.

Re: Decision Dates 2016
Yes, please do decline the offers of the schools you are not attending asap since second round of offers depends on the number of vacancies made in the first one.
Please make your decisions. Some are really waiting for the second round of offers.
I am waiting to hear from TAMU. Email from the university says they will consider the second round if there are enough vacancies and they are still waiting to hear from the first round. So either kindly accept or reject, but do it asap. I guess, if there aren't sufficient vacancies, there might not be any second round.
Thank you for your kindness.

Re: Decision Dates 2016
Is there a specific time tomorrow we should accept our offers on the 15th? (i.e. is it midnight tonight or midnight tomorrow? Or some other time?)
Also, is there anyone out there who still hasn't heard anything from Caltech? I've emailed twice in the last week, but other than asking to double-check my details they haven't told me anything about any decision. (Why the timing of the deadline matters so much to me!)

Re: Decision Dates 2016
If you are not sure for a specific school, you should just ask that school. Many programs now state a time as well as a date (e.g. 11:59:59PM April 15) in their offer letters. In my opinion, if no time is stated, my interpretation is 5PM on April 15 in the school's time zone (i.e. end of business day). This opinion is formed because most deadlines in our field work this way (e.g. abstract submission, grant applications, etc.). But if the difference between 11:59:59PM April 14 and 11:59:59PM April 15 matters to you, you should contact the school for clarification.furiousmushroom wrote:Is there a specific time tomorrow we should accept our offers on the 15th? Re: Decision Dates 2016
If it is not specified in the offer letter, there are several "rational" deadlines: (1) 11:59 pm, April 15 in the time zone of the student; (2) 11:59pm, April 15 in the time zone of the university; and (3) close-of-business (usually 5pm) in the time zone of the university. Some schools will specify an earlier time on the day of April 15 because they want to be able to make additional offers from the wait list, However, if no specific time has been stated, then you can interpret the deadline to your best advantage.
As I have said several times before on this thread, it is very helpful if there is open communication between you and the department(s). If you are waiting to hear back from someplace where you have been wait listed, it is perfectly fine to write to your current top choice to let them know that you are very excited by the opportunities at school X, but that you cannot commit just yet since you are still waiting to hear from another school. That e-mail is a perfect opportunity to inquire about the exact time at which they require a response, or even if they might be willing to extend the April 15 deadline to allow you to consider your options. And, of course, you should have already notified the other schools that you are declining their offers!
