Conference proceedings count as publications?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Conference proceedings count as publications?

Post by physmastersstudent » Wed Dec 10, 2014 6:43 pm

Work I performed for an internship was included in several conference proceedings by other members of my research group, and I am listed as an author on the papers associated with these conferences. These are available online, are in a typical paper format, and say at the top something along the lines of:

Proceedings of the CONFERENCE2012, Location, Country, AAA####

If a graduate school I am applying to is asking me for the number of publications on which I am a co-author, should I include these?

Thanks, good luck to everyone else stressing out about apps right now!

Yes. A conference proceeding counts as a publication.

Conference proceedings aren't usually formally published. That's not really the same thing as a publication in a peer reviewed journal. It would probably be best to specify what you mean if you do list them.

It's conference dependent. PNAS or CLEO, for example, count the same as a well respected journal paper.
