That's quite common at Chicago, and I've no idea why. The same research groups are available to both astro and physics, and it's not like Chicago is poor in Cosmology/Astrophysics relative to other sub-disciplines (it's quite the opposite IMHO).ale87 wrote:Me too. I do not know. Actually in my SOP (also in the one I sent to the Physics department) I cited only faculty that works in theoretical cosmology (so in the Astronomy department) probably that was part of the problem.
Congrat to all the accepted.

Rejected from Princeton. Not surprised.
Waiting for 9 more schools to get back to me.

Michigan - Ann Arbor : Applied Physics. Check out my profile for a weird coincidence...
Re: 2012 Rejections
I'm expecting a rejection from Princeton also... but I don't see it. I'm just scared tihs means I messed up my e-mail for all of them and now I won't hear anything from anyone else. x_x

Re: 2012 Rejections
You know what guys? I know someone from AZ got into Princeton with no publications, minimum research(just one summer before application) and 3.8ish GPA. (idk about PGRE). It is so stochastic. We should feel better about ourselves. Although people who are accepted are generally very good, but they are not absolutely better than us.hyc34 wrote:Rejection from Princeton, I guess only 1 first author publication is not enough.kcmccorm wrote:Same here :/. Re: 2012 Rejections
Rejected U Mass-Amherst 2/21 via email to check website.
They were the lowest ranked one on my list. I guess the rank doesn't matter much. I applied for HET anyway, so I suppose all bets were off.

Re: 2012 Rejections
Rejected from Berkeley earlier this month via email and rejected by Hawaii via snail mail yesterday. Both were for astronomy/astrophysics.
I'm just glad the first letter I got was an acceptance letter or else I'd be sweating bullets right now

Rejection from Harvard Astro via snail mail (classy!). Received Feb 21, letter dated Feb 13.
Re: 2012 Rejections
Just checked thegradcafe, find someone has been rejected from MIT today(an "insider"). I thought MIT has second wave of acceptance coming...
Re: 2012 Rejections
Yeah, I saw that one too, he e-mailed them for the response though. By the way, how hard is it to get into MIT Nuclear Sciences and Engineering? Either they're super strict about admissions or their acceptees normally don't post on gradcafe..
Re: 2012 Rejections
the results are on the website.baconface wrote:Ohio State after inquiring about status. Bleh!
appstatus.osu.edu
same here
Re: 2012 Rejections
and you are right about this:

just checked the OSU website...rejected as well.

Rejected by UWash Astro. Any int'l student got in?
Re: 2012 Rejections
So I asked Princeton about my status.. and got a non-answer. >_> I think she was too lazy to check and confirm my rejection.

Re: 2012 Rejections
Is it confirmed that there is a second wave of MIT acceptances? Is this for all MIT dept's (or, does this apply to specifically Astro at least too)? Do many schools accept in waves? I figured if I hadn't heard anything from a school by now (and knew that other people had been accpeted) I would assume I was rejected....is this not the case? Hawaii Astro also hasn't said anything to me, and they've even ignored my enquiries, so assumed I was rejected and they simply didn't care enough to respond...
Re: 2012 Rejections
Most schools accept in two or three waves.
Re: 2012 Rejections
The admission process this year at MIT is just so unusual than previous years, I also started to doubt that there will be a second wave...AriAstronomer wrote:Is it confirmed that there is a second wave of MIT acceptances? *sigh* Yale.
So glad I heard from UCSD first, totally softens the blow. Who'd choose New Haven over La Jolla anyway?

Ah, there we go. Got my rejection from Princeton. It actually DOES feel better to know. :/ Anyone wanna guess when the normal people will be hearing from Berkeley or UCSD?

Re: 2012 Rejections
At least for Berkeley astro, they're already 100% done. Not sure about the other dept, but I would imagine if you don't hear anything by the end of the month you're not going to. They seem pretty lazy with rejection letters too. I only got a rejection upon inquiry, I was never sent anything.
Re: 2012 Rejections
Does anyone know how committees determine the sequence for sending rejections? Is it alphabetical, or some other order for sending them out? I ask b/c I've seen a lot of rejections sent recently (UW and UT); I'm wondering when I'll be getting mine. If it's alphabetical I should be receiving several soon.
Re: 2012 Rejections
Anyone got a reaction from PennState Astro ?

Similar situation for me: UNH - Physics rejection..I think this is due to your research interest and their low budget on those areas.GeorgeThe4th wrote:Rejected U Mass-Amherst 2/21 via email to check website.
