Books for classical mechanics

Post by mayfire » Wed May 30, 2007 6:21 am

Guys....i have just finished reading Mechanics by Landau and Lifshitz and i now wish to read a more conventional book on classical mechanics. I had to follow Goldstein in the first part of our 2 sem course and i +vely hated the book...I have read about the book by Taylor but i can't decide.
Also I require a problems book on classical mechanics separately.
any suggestions??

well, as far as prep-work for the GRE is concerned, landau and lifshitz is overkill!

i had to use thornton and marion for my mechanics class. i personally didn't like it, though your mileage may vary.

(i'm slogging my way through L&L, myself.)
