New ETS test available: 2008
New ETS test available: 2008
Don't know if any of you noticed, but ETS has (thank god!) posted a test from 2008 in their practice book on their website.
Re: New ETS test available: 2008
I hadn't noticed, thanks very much! The more test prep material the better.. Speaking of which, must get around to studying one of these days
Re: New ETS test available: 2008
This test (2008) is in the "preparation" material officially released from ETS.
I wonder, then, which test was available before ?
I didn't download this material in the past so I cannot judge, but I think
maybe they were posting something elese? (2007 ???)

It's 2001 test. So now we have 86/92/96/2001/2008.ali8 wrote:This test (2008) is in the "preparation" material officially released from ETS.

If this practice test was a real PGRE test then it seems easy enough to ace ... (some questions are ridiculous!). Somebody can cross-check that ... . However, while browsing the practice test I recognized around 20+ questions that appeared verbatim in April 2009 PGRE test. As far as I can remember that test was more demanding than the one released by ETS ... but there are denifinitely some practice questions that appeared in real PGRE tests (and which have decreasing probability of appearing again once released ... ). On the other hand, assuming that the released practice test is a real test ... I am surprised that around 1/5 (maybe more than that) of the questions appeared in a consecutive test ... .

And that will be unfair becouse people who have the money to take two consecutive tests will have a better chance than poor people who can afford
only one test (like me).
Re: New ETS test available: 2008
I took my test in October 2009 and noticed something similar. I think the way to interpret it is that ETS does recycle questions, but in such a way that it's not terribly beneficial - if you're taking a test in October 2008, you probably are applying to grad school for '09 entry, so taking the April '09 test is useless, and many people don't take the GRE a full year ahead of time. But I think we should also assume that any questions which have been publicly released by ETS are now "retired" from the pool of questions. And I will say that this test looks ridiculously easy: I was hoping to get another "data point" from which to write preparatory material, but now I'm just confused.physics_auth wrote:However, while browsing the practice test I recognized around 20+ questions that appeared verbatim in April 2009 PGRE test. ... No, because it is under my impression that they do not use the same questions in the same year. I took two tests in 2009, October and November and none of the questions were the same. I also took the test in November 2010 and did notice a few similar questions, but not ~20%.ali8 wrote:And that will be unfair becouse people who have the money to take two consecutive tests will have a better chance than poor people who can afford

It is very rare that someone will take a test a year before in order to "help" them with the next year.

Funny thing, I had that urge too. So far, I've managed to fight it down. Kind of amazing, like somebody getting the urge to sign up with the army so they can go through basic training again.WhoaNonstop wrote:Wow, now I feel like wasting another 3 hours to see how I could do.

I'm planning on taking the qualifiers or whatever they call it, in the Spring. In preparation for it, I guess I'll take the new test.
