More Safeties?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

More Safeties?

I have already started applications to the twelve schools below. I am starting to worry that I do not have any true safeties, and I am looking for a critique of my list as to whether it seems appropriate for my stats. I would also appreciate any recommendations on a good true safety school for me to potentially add to this list.

Undergrad Institution: Big State School, ~ 50 in Physics
Major: Physics
Minor: Mathematics
GPA in Major: Phys - 3.72, Math - 4.00
Overall GPA: 3.82
Length of Degree: 4 Years
Type of Student: Domestic White Male

GRE Scores : Did not take

Research Experience:
Dark Matter Phenomenology - 2 Summers, 3 Semesters (~20 Months):
3 Presentations, 1 Paper
Computational Mathematical Physics - 2 Summers, 3 Semesters (~18 Months):
1 Presentation, 1 Thesis in progress
Nuclear Experiment - 1 Semester (~5 Months):

Physics Department Scholarship
Summer Research Stipend - 2 Summers

Pertinent Activities or Jobs:
Mathematics Department Teaching Assistant and Grader - 4 Semesters
Mathematics Directed Reading Program - 1 Semester:
1 Presentation

Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help:
