How should I email potential supervisor

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

How should I email potential supervisor

Post by gaugeinvariance » Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:35 pm

Dear all, it is me again :D I am currently applying to the graduate school in the U.S. I wonder whether it is good to send emails to supervisors that are having projects that I am interested in. If it is so, how should I organize the email so that I sounds polite as an outsider? :D

Try some variant of this:
"Hello, I'm <insert name here. I'm currently applying to graduate schools and was thinking about applying to <insert school name here>. Your work in <insert subject> is very interesting to me. Do you anticipate needing any new graduate students in the coming year?"
