When to take the GRE???

Post by jjoseph » Wed Mar 30, 2005 10:11 am

Hi,

I wish to enter graduate school in Fall 2006. I checked that most universities have an application deadline around mid-December. Is it too late if I take the GRE in November 2005? It seems that it takes them about 4-6 weeks to send the official results to the universities you selected, so it might be too late. This freaks me out because I can't take the April test (too close!).

Why do they put it in April anyway? This would mean that you have to know a year and a half in advance what university you want to go to, what program, have an idea of your supervisor, etc. Isn't that insane?

Can somebody help me on this? I think a couple of people had similar questions...

Thanks a lot!

I am now a senior, and some people in my class took the GRE in November 2004 to apply for 2005, so I think you should be fine.

What university did they apply to? Another thing is that I'm in Canada, so I'm also worrying about additional delays due to the mail...

They applied to a number of places, but you're right things could be different for international applications. Sorry I can't be of more help.
