Haha, I really think you were right about this. I got my rejection today and i'm closer to the end of the alphabet too...mhazelm wrote:I was born in July 1986, sorry!
So we can now reach the conclusion that UCSB has rejected people with last name letters A-G and with birthdays from May-August in 1986.
If you aren't in this group, sorry, you don't get notification until March 11.

Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
So far to my knowledge, UCLA, NYU, and BU are still reviewing my application (no decision made yet). They mentioned somewhere around mid to late March... Hopefully this is the case for the other schools as well...?....

I got a similar email from boston yesterday
"We know waiting is hard please be patient. Our committee is still reviewing applications. You will hopefully hear something within the next two weeks"
Ugh why do they wait till the last minute

Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
They're not putting it off. It's just that there has been a surge in applications this year, and most schools are overloaded (which is why they might be taking a while). Frankly I think schools did a good job responding promptly this year given the overwhelming number of applicants.evilclaw2321 wrote:I got a similar email from boston yesterday

Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
do you think there'll be more last minute offer this year due to the large number of applicants and schools are not sure how many to admit? Students also applied to many schools and the yields for some schools might be lower than they expected?
I'm not sure I'm making sense. Maybe the effect would be just the opposite.

I think there will be more last minute offers, but not due to the large number of applicants, but due to the fact that people are applying to many more schools (just compare profiles 2008 v 2009). If the average applies to N schools, the yield in 1/N. So a lot of places might find themselves short of their target as April rolls in...Ren wrote:do you think there'll be more last minute offer this year due to the large number of applicants and schools are not sure how many to admit? Is it possible to hear offers after April? My thesis advisor is on an admissions board (for engineering, not physics) and he mentioned something to me about April 15th being this magic national due date for acceptances, but I have been unable to confirm this. I'm just trying to hold on to false hope as long as possible.

Seriously, I am a little shocked that I haven't recieved a rejection letter/e-mail from schools like Berkeley yet. I am also shocked that I haven't heard from schools like Notre Dame.

3 rejection so far. it's promising. never felt better than this.

Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
That is what I predicted for that reason and the distribution of rejection for top schools seems oddly distributed. I didnt realize people in programs are suspecting the same. I still think the conditions are bad enough that come September classes are going to be a bit smaller than some schools expected.admissionprof wrote: I think there will be more last minute offers, but not due to the large number of applicants, but due to the fact that people are applying to many more schools (just compare profiles 2008 v 2009). The large number of applications by individuals in the forum are useful for the Results section. The amount of statistics for the profiles is great for future applicants.

I emailed 7 schools on monday only heard back from 3, thats annoying- how hard is it to send a 2 second email saying we dont know yet, or your rejected.
Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
i emailed TAMU over 10 times today, since i was told that the committee would make a few offers this week, and this is the last day of the week. Do you think I am pushing my luck or even doing damage?

Nobody wants to be emailed 10 times in one day. You may be seriously hurting your chances.babazula wrote:i emailed TAMU over 10 times today, since i was told that the committee would make a few offers this week, and this is the last day of the week. Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
Just to add to the emailing frenzy I emailed berkeley twice and have been ignored as many times.
Re: Still Waiting 2009.... Share your ambivalence!
The berk grad adviser is out of her office until monday. that may explain why no response.
emailing 10 times is extreme and annoying. even though I understand your pain, realize that the tamu grad adviser is just like the rest of us and has a bunch of stuff to do, especially if they are still trying to get notices out to students/figure out fundings and so on.....

You are without a doubt pushing your luck and most likely doing damage.babazula wrote:i emailed TAMU over 10 times today, since i was told that the committee would make a few offers this week, and this is the last day of the week. Do you think I am pushing my luck or even doing damage?
Ten emails in one day is extreme. Do not send any more. Think about it. Are you really portraying yourself as the kind of person they are going to want to deal with in their department on a daily basis?

Hello everyone,
So I was told that U Maryland was supposed to notify everyone of acceptances to their program by the end of last week, and unfortunatly I haven't heard back from them yet. Do you think they're possibly still making decisions, or perhaps have finished completely finished making all admission offers?
I mean...i emailed them every hour for the last 12 days (and twice every hour since daylight savings time) and haven't heard anything yeT!!
Thanks,
