Has anyone studied there? Or dose anyone know anybody there?
I am seriously considering of accepting their admission.
Will it be a nice place to study and live at?
Thank you very much!
How is Syracuse University?
Re: How is Syracuse University?
I've been there twice presenting for a conference and have been given a tour of their physics labs.
As a whole, I wasn't impressed. Their campus buildings seemed pretty ugly. Also Syracuse is not one of the best cities out there -- it's freezing cold for 4-5 months of the year + it is in the middle of nowhere (aka upstate ny)
As far as physics research goes, there were 1-2 professors that were doing some really cool stuff, but the rest were not that impressive. I remember I was specifically impressed by the 50 min presentation of this guy http://www.phy.syr.edu/~bowick/. Also it seems that they are big at gravity wave research.
Lastly, a friend of mine actually went there to do MSc, and he was just telling me couple of days ago, how much he misses college life, and how Syracuse is totally different and he doesn't like it too much.
I hope that was helpful enough.

Re: How is Syracuse University?
Thank you for your detailed reply, nonick! I guess I am prepared for the severe weather. Since I plan to do interdisciplinary research of bionanotech, I am interested in the research of this professor named Liviu Movileanu. He received his PhD degree from University of Bucharest at Romania in 1997. After 7 years of postdoc research in the States, he received his position of assistant professor at the Physics Department of Syracuse University. I searched for his publication on WOK website, he has 48 publications which have been cited for 570 times. Also, his H-index is 13.
I applied to Syracuse University only because I am interested in his research. Please kindly share your opionions of my choice.

I would never apply to a college where only one professor's research interested me. I mean, there is a chance that he/she may not have an opening to pay for you as an RA, and you'll be stuck looking for someone else.lijiang555 wrote:I applied to Syracuse University only because I am interested in his research. Thank you for reminding me of it! It seems that I need to contact the professor for his intention of recruiting new group members. But what do you guys think of this professor's research anyway?coreycwgriffin wrote:I would never apply to a college where only one professor's research interested me.
