statement of purpose

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Hi ray-happy,

This might be worth a read:

There aren't examples of personal statements in the article, but hopefully the article has pretty good advice:)

thanks, Grant, that really helps, although a sample essay may help further.

I do have another question to ask for help. I'm wondering whether a detailed research proposal would help, either as part of my statement of purpose or as a separate sheet? also, should an applicant try to approach his potential supervisor? I'm worrying a famous professor might take this as a harassment.
thanks again,
Ray
