What's happenin folks. I would like to start a discussion for those applying to BMP/BME this year. I know there's a lot of us, since each program I've applied to says they're receiving a record number of applications!
Share your cents! let us know your research interests, programs your applying to, praises, gripes, etc...
Applying to Medical Physics 2009
Re: Applying to Medical Physics 2009
hey,
record number huh? bleh.
I'll get back to you once I'm not way behind on these apps
good luck!
what programs are you applying to and what kinda research are you interested in?

Re: Applying to Medical Physics 2009
I'm kinda interested in roughly the intersection area between biophysics and what i think is usually called medical physics. but i've seen the latter term used a couple different ways, so i'm not positive. but I'm applying to regular physics phd programs (that have this kind of research being done) so i can change my mind seven or eight times.

Re: Applying to Medical Physics 2009
it seems that pursuing a pure physics phd does allow for more changes down the road. I am really hesitant to apply for medical physics for that reason! i am a bit scared devote wholly to a single discipline. I have applied to wisc, chicago, ucla, and mit medical physics (originally applied to radiological sciences at mit until i realized that major is no longer offered!) I'm not yet sure on research interests. mri sequence designing is fun, but i have never tried dosimetry or therapy calculations. i know that there are folks within berkeley nuc eng that study a lot of numerical methods for dose calculations, seems very interesting!
other programs applied to: stanford applied physics, berkeley bioengineering. I'm scared too!
here is a cut & paste of a FAQ from the wisconsin medical physics
How competitive is admission to the University of WI – Madison Medical Physics program?
Admission to the Medical Physics program has become increasingly competitive in recent years. Statistics for the past 7 years are:
Year Applied Accepted Admitted International
2008 185 41 23 23%
2007 154 43 26 32%
2006 164 37 22 26%
2005 133 34 20 23%
2004 140 30 23 0%
2003 94 25 19 20%
2002 42 25 12 23%

catch up on your apps! i know they're extremely annoying when you're trying to juggle a full-time course load and/or work, but you'll feel better when they're done. How many freaking worthless drop-down menus can they come up with??
good luck to you too!

Did anyone else who applied to the biomedical physics program at UCLA get invited to Candidates' day in February?
