Searching for AMO program in Canada

Post by Chunqing » Sat Nov 01, 2008 11:19 pm

As a new immigrant from asia, I have to stay in Canada for at least 2 years.
Anyone has ideas about which Univ. is better in the field of AMO?
Thanks.

Depends on what area of AMO. If you're looking at experimental quantum optics, University of Toronto has a good exerimental group. There are also several good theoretical quantum optics and quantum informatics groups at University of Calgary. Check out their websites. Hope this helps a bit,

The National Research Council in Ottawa probably has the best laser lab in north america

You can do graduate studies there while being registered at the University of Ottawa.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
But, how can I apply for the National Research Council?
Just directly apply to University of Ottawa?

Yes; most of the researchers are cross-appointed. The NRC itself does not grant degrees, so you need to be paired by a university of ottawa prof (who will normally also work at NRC).
