So I woke up this morning, checked my e-mail, and get pumped because there are a ton of facebook emails because I went crazy on writing on peoples walls last night.

Then I look more closely, and in the middle is an acceptance e-mail from Stony Brook University! Now things just got more difficult, because I have 2 schools I'm accepted to. It would be so much easier if there was just one.

I was listening to one of my favorite 90s post-punk bands, while putting a french polish on some furniture, when it struck me to check my email.

I've never been so shellacked.

Nothing in the mail. No UIUC email. Only that nice Yale letter.

got three big white envelopes today when i got home (I thought atleast one would hold an admit). One was the taxes, the other was a CC offer and the third was a bloody auto insurance offer.

That reminds me that on Tuesday I tricked myself. My roommate puts my mail on my desk when I'm not home. Tuesday morning I have a different schedule so I took all my folders out of my bag and threw them on my desk before I left for school. When I got home that night, the light was out and I saw a big envelope on my desk. I ripped it of the desk and it's just my E&M folder with my notes. A self-shellacking.

A self-shellacking.
lol...

And when did we change the spelling...I thought it was "shalack"?

doom schooled me about its spelling in another thread. I cited urban dictionary for my spelling, he cited OED and dictionary.com

I'm still using "shalacked."

Grae, please don't cry. I'm sorry I was so harsh in my correction. ;)

Besides your Huge Internet Tears from your Huge Internet Eye will surely drown us all. Then we wouldn't have to worry about getting shellacked.

I got a call from an unknown number, and as usual, I didn't answer it. It was from an area code I didn't recognize, so I looked it up, and it was Boston, which made get excited. The caller didn't leave a message, but immediately called again, so I answered it. Turns out it was an old friend of mine who is currently a grad student at MIT, just calling to see what's up.

I guess I was kind of shellacked, but at least it was a good conversation.

oooooh... that's a serious shellacking right there.

the higher your hopes the more the shellacking

You can't misspell a nonexistent word so you might as well use "shalack".

Huh? Why do you call "shellack" a nonexistent word?

Got a call today, didn't recognize the number. Didn't know if Universities are open on President's day, so I was hoping it was a school calling.

I picked up, and the person says "Congradulations!", pause. So, I am like yes, which school could it be. Then, I realize its a recording and it continues to tell me that I won a free prize to something or other. I was so pissed.

Aren't you going to tell us what kind of prize?

I got an email from Berkeley, and my heart just about stopped out of excitement. Then I read it and it was just to tell me that they had begun reviewing my application.

How's this for a shekllkalacking... I check my e-mail and there's a message whose subject says "Institute of Technology..."

I hold my breath... and then...

I look more closely, and it's some spam *** from the New Jersey Institute of Technology that probably got my name from the GRE search service

So it seems that nobody anywhere has heard from Stanford, Caltech or Harvard (pure physics)... is it like this every year? I swear someone heard from Caltech in January last year!!!

I just got that email, too. Of course, I saw "New Jersey" first... which is about as opposite from where I'd like to be as possible in this country.

So, I check my email this afternoon, and I've grown accustomed to there popping up two or three letters that aren't the ones I'm interested in. But this time there's like 17, and so I think, "damn, 17 emails? One of these has to be from an admissions committee!"

But that turned out to be entirely untrue.

I get a bunch of spam from my grandmother everyday....she has just discovered the carbon copy so she can write emails enmass now....

Anywho, here's looking to another day without anything. Now back to venting my frustration on the "people who don't give a crap" stack of homework.

It was a pamphlet describing research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Geroge better hope he doesn't see me in a dark alley anytime soon.

I just want to follow up on that previous post...

So I clicked the link to opt out of receiving e-mails from RPI and what do they do?! They sent me a *** confirmation e-mail to make sure that I wanted to stop getting their e-mails!

Shalacked twice! DAMN YOU GEROGE!

I got the same *** email from George. First i thought it may have been from UCSD. What the heck is wrong with RPI?

Yeah I'm still waiting to hear from Harvard applied physics and I know that my chances are dwindling. I saw that email and got my hopes raised briefly. I bet they know that if RPI is in the subject or author line that nobody will look at it.
