Decision Dates 2017

Re: Decision Dates 2017
Well Stanford's website says that they will make decisions by March 1, so that means there's about a week left for those of us that haven't heard back yet.
Re: Decision Dates 2017
Admitted to Stony Brook's master's program, which is obviously a PhD rejection - I certainly can't afford this option. Also accepted into SUNY Buffalo's PhD program, will likely turn it down.

Has anyone who interviewed with U Washington astronomy heard back yet? They said they were hoping to announce acceptances by the beginning of this week but I haven't seen a peep.

Interviewed on Thursday, admitted via phone-call on Saturday. I do know that their department chair and graduate admission chair are both traveling all week so they may be slow on releasing the rest of the acceptances.ckitc wrote:Has anyone who interviewed with U Washington astronomy heard back yet? I also got that email. I'm already working on a master's degree for free so I have no interest in paying for one there.Flagg wrote:They sent me an email.Tacosbeforevatos wrote:Did Stony Brook email you or just website?Flagg wrote:Admitted to Stony Brook's master's program, which is obviously a PhD rejection - I certainly can't afford this option. It happened to me too... Does anyone have an idea of the cost of this option for an international student?Flagg wrote:Admitted to Stony Brook's master's program, which is obviously a PhD rejection - I certainly can't afford this option. Also, suppose I accept and I do great. Does this guarantees a PhD admission the next year or I'm supposed to compete with anyone else again?
Re: Decision Dates 2017
Unless it is explicitly said, you do not any get guaranteed admission to PhD. You will have to compete again.Frod wrote:It happened to me too... Like TakeruK says, you will not be a shoo-in to their physics department unless they say so, and if you got the same email that I did, it did not say so.Frod wrote:It happened to me too... Now, if you do great and get a Master's from SUNY Stony Brook, you may very well have a chance at better grad schools than the ones you were looking at this time around, or at least that would likely be the case for me. But I simply do not have the financial ability to go this route.
If you got the same email I did, look at the PDFs they attach. I believe it says how much you'd expect to pay as an international student. If not, I'm sure you could ask them and they'd answer happily.

Re: Decision Dates 2017
Is there any information about the decisions from the university of texas austin dpt of astronomy???? There are only 2 of postings in the gradcafe in 2017. Getting much angry and nervous. No news would be the signal for rejection??
Re: Decision Dates 2017
They didn't give me any indication of how many people they admitted or the timeline, but the official visit is scheduled March 9-10. I would assume no news is bad news at this point. (No way to be sure unless you ask, though.)physicist91 wrote:Is there any information about the decisions from the university of texas austin dpt of astronomy???? Thanks for this. I'm obviously in good shape either way, but they're pretty high up my list so here's hoping!stars_are_fun wrote:Interviewed on Thursday, admitted via phone-call on Saturday. And of course, it figures you'd be first on their list, Ms. I'm-Making-A-Clean-Sweep. (Here's hoping I run into you on a mutual visit, so I can figure out your secret in person.)

Does anyone know if Rutgers has sent out all of its accepted e-mail to their applicants?
There are few postings in grad cafe in this year.

Same question about Rutgers here.
Re: Decision Dates 2017
Unfunded offer for Masters program in Stony Brook which means a rejection.
Re: Decision Dates 2017
Asked to apply to unfunded masters program at Brown. Another reject.

Did anyone hear from Brandeis or Northeastern? I saw some domestic students were invited to open house for Brandeis. Any information regarding international students?

Thanks for your respondent. I think that you right. This would be significantly negative sign for the admissions. I should prepare my application next time. Thanks and i hope that you can get admissions. I am also waiting on Northeastern, doesnt seem like they've sent anything yet. In previous years they sent offers around late februarybunnysid wrote:Did anyone hear from Brandeis or Northeastern? Re: Decision Dates 2017
I emailed UCSB and they said "You should find out by 2/24." So I guess many of us should hear today or tomorrow. Looks like all the acceptances went out, though, so I'm expecting a rejection.
Re: Decision Dates 2017
They are pretty much done with acceptances (having accepted ~100 applicants). Unfortunately, if you haven't heard back from them, chances are you didn't make the cut.bstrekha wrote:I emailed UCSB and they said "You should find out by 2/24." Re: Decision Dates 2017
Yeah, I that's what I'm guessing. I mean, I'm happy about the UIUC acceptance and UIUC has research I really like. However, having more options would made this grad school process a bit more exciting. Can't be too picky, though.
Re: Decision Dates 2017
Just got rejected from Northeastern via website. A little surprised since that was one of my safeties, but I got into better programs anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't think so - I certainly haven't. Haven't seen anything on gradcafe either except for the applied physics acceptance. Though judging from your applicant profile, you both needn't worry and needn't caremetapuff wrote:Has anyone heard from Yale yet?

Why would they admit someone who may outclass and therefore reject them?
I was talking about this with a friend. High performance is not a good indicator of acceptance. What matters is matching your performance to a particular school.

Yale just invited me to the open house, but no offer yet

Yeah, same. Kinda weird.anirekj wrote:Yale just invited me to the open house, but no offer yet
Re: Decision Dates 2017
I'm also amused by the fact that the first thing they plan to do is taking students to a BAR. Are we supposed to get really drunk and do some crazy interviews the next day? lolmetapuff wrote:Yeah, same. Kinda weird.anirekj wrote:Yale just invited me to the open house, but no offer yet
Re: Decision Dates 2017
Does anyone know if UIUC is done with all offers ?
Re: Decision Dates 2017
I got an offer from UIUC on Feb. 14 and a classmate at my university heard from them even earlier (although I was CMT and he was CME.) So I would think all of their first round offers are probably out. Maybe they will have more offers to make, but the chance of being accepted at this point is probably slim. But you never know until you officially hear back from them!

Just heard back from UC Berkeley. (8:06 PM EST)
That ends my grad school admissions! It's been quite a ride, and I'm glad that it's over.
Good luck & best of wishes to everyone else who's not done yet.

Hey guys, does anyone know if Penn State and OSU have finished sending out their offers? My applications status are still pending for such a long time.
Re: Decision Dates 2017
I got an offer from them Feb 15. and saw some other acceptances a few days later. So it appears that the first-round offers went out. I declined their offer, though. Hopefully someone that really wants to go to PennState gets that spot instead. Maybe they are waiting to see how their first round offers go before deciding whether to send out more offers.linh119 wrote:Hey guys, does anyone know if Penn State and OSU have finished sending out their offers?
