I got a 830 (76%) physics sub.
As an international student who want to apply hep-th, it seems to be a bad one.
Should I send this score to programs that sub is only recommended?
Will this break my applications?
Thanks

By sub, I think you mean score. It is substandard for most of the top schools, but it isn't terrible. It all depends on how the rest of your application is.

To my understanding, you'd have a really hard time at a top school with that score (especially in theory), but a lower tier school might be fine with it. If the rest of your app is great, though, they might be willing to look beyond it? I wouldn't restrict yourself to recommended-only schools, there are plenty of schools that would be fine with that score and be willing to still consider you seriously.
