Hi, I'm an international student.
I got Ph.D offer from this school. I wrote Hep-th in the SOP.
It seems that it's not mentioned as Hep-th strong school in this site. Actually, nearly nothing has been mentioned.
I have questions about career after graduation, what this department is most known for, pros and cons, etc.
Especially, 1) Is there realistic chance of becoming a professor?
2) Can I get a job outside academia to make an end meat?
3) What is needed to do great theoretical research and what this school lacks concerning those resources.
If you guys have heard anything about this school, please give me some information.
University of Florida. What is it like?

Not sure why nobody replied, although the phrase "an end meat" is hysterically funny.
Florida is good in hep-ph, with Matchev, Sikivie, Woodard. The only hep-th person is Qiu. See

As far as the chance of becoming a professor: there were six jobs last year in the US in hep-ph/hep-th. This year seems to be better, but it's still a very small number. If you don't have a PhD from a top ten, your chances are quite small. Many jobs outside academia require either citizenship or a green card.
