Contact a faculty while it's pending?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Contact a faculty while it's pending?

Post by hcai » Mon Mar 09, 2015 12:35 am

Hey, guys,

It seems that most PhD programs have already finished their first run. For people like me who haven't got the result, I wonder know is it appropriate to email a faculty and ask if I'm waitlisted?

For a given faculty, it's difficult to know whether they're on the admission committee or not, but if they're helpful they'll usually forward your email to someone who is. It's best to email someone like a graduate coordinator if a department website lists one. At worst you'll be ignored, so go ahead and ask away.
