Being Away from Physics for 6 Years

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Being Away from Physics for 6 Years

Post by lupin3 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 10:59 pm

Hi
I got a B.Sc. in Physics on 2006 and then started an M.Sc. but stopped (after completing all coursework but without completing thesis) on 2009. Since that date, I am working in industry in an assignment not related to Physics at all. Does getting a high score in PGRE compensate for it? and how does admission committee look for stopping M.Sc. at the Thesis stage?

Thanks

All I can say is getting a high score in physics GRE does not help much, as the most important factors these days are recommendation letters, research experience (with papers published, or at least some talks given), grades in advanced physics course. That being said, having a low GRE score might impact your application negatively.
