Finding research opportunities

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Finding research opportunities

Post by swilliams » Fri Jan 12, 2007 7:29 pm

Hello,
I am a sophomore right now and I'd like to try and get some research exp. as soon as this comming summer. Does anyone have any advise to share about finding/securing research opportunities? I'd really appreciate the help.

REU

Apply for REU programs. All most all Univ and Physics Depts. have REU's in summer. It's a NSF funded program. 10-week. Check the dept websites for more info. Most places have a deadline of Feb 15 to March 1. It is a good experience. Can make connections during this time. Procedure similar to Grad school applications. SOP, Resume, Rec. Letters etc

You will get paid.

All the best
