ETS score reports

I'm trying to send additional score reports to grad schools, but I'm confused by one thing: do I have to submit separate score report requests for the general and physics GRE's, or are both scores included in the $15/school fee?

I think that both GRE general and subject are reported each time you request a score report. That's what I heard on the phone when I asked my scores to be reported.

So when you're sending out the reports, after you enter the school and department code, the syrupy lady says "if you'd like to send your GRE General test scores to ____, press 1 now"
and then she says "If you'd like to send your GRE Subject test scores to ___, press 1 now"
and then she confirms your choices
and then she confirms that confirmation of your choices

oh, and if you're on a cell phone and the tones don't always go through, the system hangs up on you if you ACCUMULATE one minute of erroneously understood button-pressing

so then you might be stuck spending an entire day calling ETS, and you may end up memorizing twelve school codes in the process because your friggin school is too cheap to install land lines in your dorm

yes, I love ETS. They charged me twice my TOEFL fee while proposing me only one session. What I really like is that they state on their webpage that they are a nonprofit company. You can just browse their webpage to check how much this statement is true. You indeed have to pay for preparation material, registering, obtaining your scores by phone (10$ just for earing an answering machine), and for reporting scores. For the GRE physics, you have 4 sample tests, but for the TOEFL you have only one, and if you want some more you have to pay to obtain them. I didn't pay any extra for it (maybe I'm too mean :P), and It is really nonsense... either you want people not to prepare to much, or you give this material to everyone that want to pass the test.

Just so you know, ETS used to sell the old physicsgre exams also...for some obscene amount of money i can't recall
Technically (I think) people posting those old exams on the internet from that (now out of print) book are violating someone's copyright, but I'm guessing it's not lucrative for ETS to litigate.

Not to mention that the previous tests are not really representative of the current material.

ETS is ready to leave you hungry and nacked

These guys from ETS are true robbers. There is no info on the original question of this topic on their site. What confused me was a request to indicate your ID for an exam - and IDs for general and subject test are different. I called an ETS representative in American Councils St. Petersburg, Russia and he told me to send G and S request separatly and pay for both. And I did so.

Now, I was surprised, that ETS charged me only 120$ instead of 240$ and I thought that they fixed my misunderstanding. Oh, how stupid I was! They sent me an e-mail telling that my bank rejected two payments and I have to pay 120$ + a fine of 20$. My bank representative says that there were no rejects at all and my ETS has an open access to my card, so anyway those rejects were not my fault.

Thanks for the information on the score reporting, aquarius and artschoolapplicant. One more question: if I want to send both my general and physics GRE scores, but haven't received my physics GRE score yet (took it Dec. 2), do I need to wait to receive the score to request additional reports? Thanks.

Pascal:

short answer: yes, you must wait...besides the four schools you specified when you took the subject gre, all other schools will have to wait, because....well it's silly, but let me put it this way

(and keep in mind that I've only talked to a few very unhelpful reps about this)

the system can't register that you'll even HAVE a valid GRE score until your sheet is graded, because until then they won't know if you bubbled in the "cancel my scores" bubbles.

ok. from what I've gathered, the system may even give you the option of sending your "subject scores," but will in fact then send NOTHING along with your GRE scores

your best bet is to dial the first option "hear scores from a recent test date" and see if it will LET you listen to your subject GRE scores...at that point you don't even have to listen to them...you just have to know that they're in the system

then redial and send out all your scores as described above

Oh, and also you could burn sage whilst spreading white quartz in a circular groove of 1 inch depth, lighting a fire only in the southeast corner and praying to the mighty ETS mother that she will grant the solemn petition of her groveling suppliant.

so in short...a week or two from now start calling every day and seeing if your GRE subject scores are available

HOWEVER...do not take my word as gospel on this one...this is what I did after failing to extract any meaningful alternative from their website or helpline.
