Have been asked for the skype interview and apparently one of the top applicants for UMich. I take it as a good sign that it was a collaborator of my adviser who emailed me.

@kangaroo: MIT does admit people in waves, looking over gradcafe from previous years. Some people may be admitted next week or in a couple of weeks. Also, regarding Berkeley, what I said before did apply for last year, but that doesn't necessarily mean it applies this year. Even if you don't get admitted to either school, you've already been admittedt to UCSB? Don't sweat the small stuff.

Please I'd like to ask.... was your status "submitted" or "under review" before you got accepted? My status is "submitted" and I'm not sure if it means my application is ready for review.

Mine still says "submitted" and as I said above, I've talked to a member of the admissions committee and they have all of my material, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Also keep in mind for anybody who worries about it, it is common also to label it as incomplete if you're still finishing your degree and you have to send in a "degree posted transcript". Definitely check to see that they have all the material up to then, but don't worry about the system saying that you're missing your transcripts. Some places just do it that way, they still review your stuff anyhow.

Btw, so far have any international students got big offers? I'm guessing int'l students will be reviewed after the domestic, for financially troubled schools~

I noticed this from jorgithepirate in his profile:

I'm afraid to tell him that all of the selection committee at William & Mary ARE hipsters. Physicist hipsters.

Got waitlisted by Yale Astro.

As some guy stated in his profile, Yale's shortlisted 14 applicants and will make 10 offers. One applicant has already withdrawn (thanks).

Still I'm waitlisted. I'm guessing either I'm too stupid or the shortlist in fact has way more than 14 applicants... giving us false hope.... *heartbroken*

So shortlist is the list made before giving out offers, and then they asked the applicants a few more questions. After that they decided who would be given offers and who would be put to waitlist.

And I'm put to the waitlist.

This is my understanding....

Hmm interesting - what types of questions did they ask?

Did they interview you before putting you on the shortlist?

Since the Yale Grad School seems to require interviews before offers (http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2012/ ... nterviews/).

[am wondering since I'm flying to Yale next week for an interview+open house, for a related department, though I may have the option to dual-PhD with Astro]
