chances for applied physics

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

chances for applied physics

Post by Tosh » Thu Mar 03, 2011 1:55 pm

I am going to apply to Applied Physics/material science/EE PhD programs. Here's my brief background. Can anyone comment on what kind of schools do I have a decent chance?

School: junior at a top LAC
Major: Physics
GPA: Around 3.6-3.7
Research: One 2nd author conference proceedings in engineering, one each of 3rd, 4th, 5th author in peer-reviewed publications (all 4 should be accepted before I apply), previous research on condensed matter (nanotech)

Thanks.

I'm going to say this, but I'm sure some forum regulars will be around to back me up.

Please do not post this type of question.

1) We are not on an admissions committee and cannot tell you whether or not you will get in.
2) You don't even specify which school(s)! How could you possibly expect someone to give you a realistic answer? Do you want to know the chances you'll get into Stanford or Backwater Falls State?
3) There are PAGES upon PAGES of posted profiles. Look through them and compare your profile to other profiles and see where they applied and where they got in. Do your own research and don't expect other people to do the leg work for you
