Dear ******
I am very pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to the graduate program in Physics at MIT, beginning in the fall term 2011. Congratulations! A formal letter with details will follow in a few days.
I am also delighted to inform you that you have been awarded a fellowship for your first twelve months; fellowships cover the cost of tuition, a living stipend (the amount for 2011-12 will be determined shortly; the 2010-11 monthly stipend is $2,400), and health insurance for the student. These prestigious awards give you the freedom to explore various options to work with our faculty during the first year. Afterwards you will continue to be supported, typically by a research assistantship from the group you choose to work with.
In order to help you make an informed choice which graduate school to attend (we hope that you will choose MIT!), you are invited to an open house for prospective graduate students. More details will follow, but for now, please save the dates: Thursday and Friday, March 31 and April 1. We hope that you will attend this event where there will be many opportunities to learn about MIT and to interact with our faculty. However, if for some reason you are prevented from attending the open house, please contact us to arrange a visit at a different time.
Congratulations once again, and we very much hope that you will accept our offer and join our community this fall.
Best regards,
Vladan Vuletic on behalf of the Physics Department at MIT
