UCSB for me too. I'm going to go ahead and blame it on being international and UC budget issues.

That's the last of them. Not totally unexpected.Dear *****,
Thank you for applying to MIT. Unfortunately we are unable to offer you admission into the Graduate Program in Physics this year. We received approximately 700 applications for 30 openings which resulted in the refusal of many excellent applicants.
Knowing a decision is coming in a couple days is almost worse than wondering when it's going to come.We are in the process of making a decision on your application for admission. You may review the decision after 8:00 a.m. PST on March 3, 2011, by accessing your UC Davis application on the online admission web site.
I disagree. If i had an exact timeline of when decisions would be done and available, I wouldn't be spending all day at work religiously poking at the refresh button on my phones email app at 5 minute intervals.badphysicist wrote:Anyone else receive an email from Davis saying a decision will be posted March 3rd?Knowing a decision is coming in a couple days is almost worse than wondering when it's going to come.We are in the process of making a decision on your application for admission. I got that email a few weeks ago. within an hour my acceptance was posted on the website (even though it said they would take a few days).
don't worry. You should justify your name, you know ---Happy==.HappyQuark wrote:UCLA rejection this morning.
Unless I get irvine, I won't be 'going going, back back to Cali Cali!'

Definitely. UCSD was my reach school and I highly doubt that I'll get in. I think Irvine my is my last great hope.matto07 wrote:Rejected by Harvard (finally...)
@HappyQuark: What about San Diego? Already giving up hope?
I've asked a few professors and graduate assistants so far as to why I've been rejected, and so far I've just gotten vague responses: 'we had a strong pool of candidates and can only admit a few of them etc etc'. But one did mention I was close to the cutting point.admissionprof wrote:It is appropriate to ask the graduate admissions person why you were rejected. I get roughly 3 emails every cycle asking. Sometimes it's an issue that the person can do something about, sometimes it isn't. The only time it's awkward is if there is something cautionary or negative in a letter, since those are confidential, so I have to be much more vague. A professor mentioned in the SoP may have no say with the committee, so that wouldn't be useful.Dream wrote:How to ask for feedbacks to rejected application? Same...not unexpected at this point.Kaumz wrote:Univ. of Chicago...this makes it 3 rejects
Same here. Boo!kacsa8 wrote:Rejection from Boulder through email today. I've heard back from all six schools now. Time for the hard part: deciding where to go! Anyone else going to Tucson this week?
I don't know man... girls at gamestop are dime a dozen.WhoaNonstop wrote:I'm still mad about the girl at gamestop.

Me too. No need to visit Boulder now. Ah well more time to play around in the mountains.HappyQuark wrote:Same here. Boo!kacsa8 wrote:Rejection from Boulder through email today. Are you talking about all the girls who work at gamestop or the subset of girls who work at gamestop that I'd gladly play twister with?YodaT wrote:I don't know man... girls at gamestop are dime a dozen.WhoaNonstop wrote:I'm still mad about the girl at gamestop.

T2kburl, was it a generic email or in response to an inquiry. I only ask because I'm anxious to hear from themt2kburl wrote:Me too. No need to visit Boulder now. It was a response to an inquiry from the APS department, not Physics.vttd wrote: T2kburl, was it a generic email or in response to an inquiry. I only ask because I'm anxious to hear from them
Mine came as an email and I hadn't inquired about my application.vttd wrote:T2kburl, was it a generic email or in response to an inquiry. I'm sorry to hear that. Apparently they only admitted 13 out of 157 international applicants.Kaumz wrote:UCLA

Most years that's true, so probably brace yourself. Though I've heard this year there's a higher chance of being pulled off of a wait-list at the last minute, because schools are being more conservative with their acceptance numbers. I might know more if you tell me the schools you're waiting on.tychobrahe_1 wrote:If they haven't made a decision on an application, it's safe to say that they will probably reject. Am I right?
It's looking like grad school will not be for me next year. Rejections so far and I am still waiting on: Rutgers,New Brunswick; UMD; UPitt; UMass-Amherst, Lehigh U, UDelaware, and Georgia State U.bfollinprm wrote:

Also, Profile!
None of us own a school and run its admissions, so there's no need to impress us. It's impressive in and of itself that you want to study physics; lesser persons would be frightened by challenge.tychobrahe_1 wrote:It's looking like grad school will not be for me next year. My profile is not very impressive, which is why I keep it to myself.
No reason to hide acceptances, so....Dr [adcomm chair] does not want me to tell anyone until April 16 if they were admitted or not. You can contact him if you would like to check with him.
