Haha maybe, MIT is pretty cocky (even for a top program). UCLA gave me the standard unofficial "we have recommended you for admission to the Graduate Division" e-mail - I think they told me earlier that they don't use the portal for anything.Helio wrote:sterculus wrote: I don't even know if they have a waitlist... as cocky as they are
did the email tell you were in or did you have to go their online portal thing btw?

the only thing they told me was that they don't use the online system thingy to track your materialsterculus wrote:Haha maybe, MIT is pretty cocky (even for a top program). Re: Fall 2009 Open House Information
I checked the system "Application Status", which just says "Submitted" for me.Helio wrote:the only thing they told me was that they don't use the online system thingy to track your material
Re: Fall 2009 Open House Information
The use the portal to reject people because the graduate school ends up having to reject people and they use the portal. Admission is recommendation to graduate school which then posts the official decision.sterculus wrote: Haha maybe, MIT is pretty cocky (even for a top program). Re: Fall 2009 Open House Information
Ah ok, so it'll change my status whenever the grad school gets around to me. Makes sense.

Nevermind, found out Brown does not have an open house. They schedule visits for each student at different times.

You're right, I guess we just have to choose.
I just wonder when Stanford will have their open house. It would be rather nice if it was synched up with Berkeley!!!

Maryland Physics is March 27-28.

Wow, the Berkeley letter actually lists the wrong dates!
Edit - Just so there's no confusion, that wasn't sarcasm.

I called up Caltech, and the lady wouldn't answer my question of "when the recruiting weekend was." She just told me to wait until March 15 when the decisions are out.
Probably a rejection.

It's weird though because it doesn't seem anyone is being accepted to these applied physics places (caltech, stanford, columbia...)

Seems like at least one other guy got into Caltech Applied Physics. They're being secretive aren't they... I'd be shouting on the rooftops if I got in to any of those schools.Maxwells_Demon wrote:It's weird though because it doesn't seem anyone is being accepted to these applied physics places (caltech, stanford, columbia...)

A prerequisite for acceptance into the CalTech Aph program is that you subscribe to nihilism and I am thus incapable of getting excited - even if I could it would be meaningless Lebowski.gumpstuck wrote:Seems like at least one other guy got into Caltech Applied Physics. Re: Fall 2009 Open House Information
So, here are the open houses that I'm pretty sure I'll be at:
-Colorado physics (the one this week)
-Princeton Plasma (moved to 3/16-17 fyi)
-Caltech
-Stanford
-Berkeley
-MIT
See some of you guys there, I guess!

Re: Fall 2009 Open House Information
went to my first open house this past friday. one of the professors i met with pleasantly informed me that he was the sole reason i was accepted (i forget the exact words but it think it involved pulling my file from the rejection pile) and that if i decide to attend i better not mess it up. a real optimist, good times.

Check out the weather for the UT visiting weekend:

When I visited U. of Michigan it was 60*F and very nice. Now Austin is wet, cold and rainy. I swear the weather gods are playing tricks on me.
