Hi Friends!! :D
Friends, I need your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, my profile is something like the one given below. Please take a look at it and help me with your answers to the question I have asked at the end of it.............

Undergrad Institution: I am an Indian student. I have done my Electronics and Communication Engineering from an Indian University. My institution has absolutely no reputation in the area of Physics

Major(s):Studied Engineering Mathematics for 2 years. So I can safely say that I have a strong mathematics background. The other major subjects were purely Electronics based like VLSI, Signal Porcessing etc,

Minor(s):We did have Engineering Physics in one of our semesters where we were introduced to basics of QM, particle theory and so on.

GPA in Major:Well there is no such thing in our system

Overall GPA:My overall aggregate is 80% with a distinction(highest class awarded in our system) in all of the semesters

Length of Degree: 4 years.

Position in Class: Very consistent in academics. Been in the top 10 throughout. Topper in 2 out of 8 semesters :)

Type of Student: International, male.

GRE Scores:
Q:760*
V:540*
W:
P:940*

TOEFL Total: 110*

Research Experience: NO

Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Awards for my academic performances but nothing related to physics in particular. :x

Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Currently working as an Embedded Software Developer.

Recommendation Letters Can get it only from my professors...who unfortunately, are not well known in the area of Physics

*Friends the scores I have mentioned are purely hypothetical......But people please tell me, with such scores and credentials(which surely is not hypothetical) what would be my chances of getting into a reputed university.....please mention a few universities where I have a geniune chance. I am planning to take up PGRE in 2009. Please help........ :D

You should worry about getting research experience instead of worrying about where you can get into. Lack of research experience will be a major down point on your otherwise very good application.

Also, what do you want to study?

If you don't worry about where you get into, why worry about research? j/k

@eds

the profile you have put is almost mine only. I have very similar GRE scores. But I was never in the top 5% of my class and I had whole lot of backlogs which will be absolutely evident in my transcripts...

you can check my post in 2009 Profile

Without any research experience you will have a very hard time getting into any of the top schools. However, 940 on the PGRE looks impressive, even for somebody from India, so you will definitely get in somewhere. Definitely one of the top 50 schools, but most probably none of the top 20.
