Application vs. Admission stats

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

Application vs. Admission stats

Is anyone aware of the what the number of applicants was to programs last year? I have anecdotally heard that it was quite high, but that doesn't jive with the lower number of undergrads applying to colleges overall. Just curious what the trend is. Are numbers of applicants up, level, or down?

some schools will post their application data. For example, here is UCSD:

https://ir.ucsd.edu/grad/stats/admissions.html

you can also find other schools' data simply by googling (but not every school will give their data)
for most schools, the application number incredibly increased in the last year.
