  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

If it asks for GPA without qualification, it almost always is asking for your cumulative GPA.

The university will require a copy of your transcripts as well and have access to both your cumulative and major GPAs. There's nothing about your academic history that you enter in the application that doesn't also show up on your transcript. The manual entry, I think, is a courtesy to make the data easier to parse into a single document for the admissions committee (as well as help them start the review process in case official transcripts aren't available yet), but it will definitely raise some red flags if they review your transcript and see major inconsistencies with what you've reported.

In other words, don't do it. Nothing, and I mean nothing, in the admissions process is so important that lying about it will help you enough to offset the potential harm if the admissions committee finds out.
