Is it worth spending 75000$ to study MSc. Theoretical Physics from Utrecht University?

  • This has become our largest and most active forum because the physics GRE is just one aspect of getting accepted into a graduate physics program.
  • There are applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation, visiting schools, anxiety of waiting for acceptances, deciding between schools, finding out where others are going, etc.

I am bit confused whether should I drop a year or go to Utrecht? I'll have to take student loan to study at Utrecht, so I am worried about my earnings after studying Theoretical Physics to pay off the loan. Physics doesn't pay you much.

tuition fee for non-EU at utrecht: http://students.uu.nl/files/uuinstellingstarievenmpdf
about 20k EUR = 22k USD per year. 2 years = 44k USD. Assume 1k USD per month, you'll need 68k USD..

Anyway, do not take a big loan for Master's program. It is an intermediate stage before PhD, after all. I would advise for cheaper choices like France or Germany. Tuition in France is only 10k EUR per year, and their government is promoting, so many tuition exemptions are granted. Germany has no tuition fee whatsoever.

I needed 3 years of work to save up 75k. If I am given this choice, I will not pay a 3 years' work for a 2 years' experience.
