Splitting Visit Costs

Did anyone succeed in getting schools to split visit costs or get one school to pay for your flight to a different school?

I have a $400 grant to visit Maryland and $500 to visit Washington, and I would like to make these visits back-to-back. Should I ask one school to pay for my ticket from Maryland to Washington, or do schools sometimes split the cost of that ticket?

Any info from anyone who tried this will be much appreciated. :)

In one of the letters I got, the admissions person said to let me know what schools nearby I was visiting and they would coordinate with the other school to split flight costs. Just email or call them up. They are very helpful.

Yeah, I was planning on asking them as soon as I figure out which order I'm making my trips.

I had heard of nearby schools splitting costs, but these are schools on opposite coasts, so I'm not sure how it'll work out. We shall see.

I am splitting my travel expense (about $700) between 5 schools (M.I.T., Chicago, Yale, Columbia, and Princeton). I visit some of them on dates during which they don't hold their openhouse. They all agreed with my suggestion to split the cost equally among each other except for Chicago. Chicago has not replied to my suggestion yet, and thus it doesn't mean they would disagree. I think they are flexible.

In addition, in case if I have a trouble, I was advised to contact professor in an institution. They would arrange more flexible reimbursement including even visiting there twice. This is an advice from my research professor at my institute.

Hope you succeed on splitting cost and get the best schedule of visits for you.
