Hi all,

Basically, I am now finalizing the list of schools I want to apply to. Since I will be accompanied by my family, I really favor to live in a "big" city where a lot of options and flexibility exist. Of course, I researched a lot about the schools in order to know how their cities are, but I think you might guide me as native citizens to know some of the famous big city universities in the top 30 physics schools.

Ok, So before the amount of sarcasm goes beyond control, let me rephrase my question.

What top 30 schools would you recommend for someone who has living in a large city as a priority? any famous schools to avoid? American students certainly have ready impressions about cities.

What do you expect from "large cities", exactly? Kindergartens for your kids and job opportunities for your better half? If so, maybe you should directly ask each school. From my (small) experience of the US, graduate students bringing their family is not so rare a thing, and I would expect the uni staff to have information about how easy it would be for your family to thrive in that new environment.

yeah, Kindergartens, spouse job opportunities, a variety of hanging out options for my family, availability of several mosques, in general a lively atmosphere for my wife so that she can fight boredom while I am busy with Jackson and Goldstein
