Visiting grad schools

Post by dct64xx » Sun Dec 13, 2009 8:31 pm

I was just wondering how visiting grad schools for open houses works in the US. Does the university just supply a certain amount of money, and then you have to cover the rest? And if so, are they usually willing to give money to international students (in particular, Canadians)?

For the schools I visited, I was given a reimbursement form for all the expenses (lodging, travel, meals) which I turned in to the department's accounting office.

I'm also from Canada, and all four of the schools I visited were willing to reimburse all my expenses. I suppose they made Canada an exception since travel costs aren't as expensive as flying from other countries (unless you're flying out of Toronto's airport  ).
