Hello,
Say, if you get waitlisted in the autumn or winter, you still have a few months until the official decision comes out. By then, you've probably done more research and it might have been better than anything you've done in the past.
So if you get waitlisted, is it ever advisable to send a supplementary recommendation? (or a supplementary letter describing the changes?)

Why not? Just email the graduate admissions coordinator and ask if it's ok.

if its something that really worth to say, do it. for example if you could publish or submit a paper to a journal/conference or you received an award for some reasons. otherwise if you made a minor progress in your research its not a big deal for committee. they know that by default.
