Two separate letters, or one letter with two people co-writing?

For context here, I did research this summer with two different people. One of these writers, the primary person I did my research with, is not a professor, but is a staff scientist who works on telescopes at Palomar and the like. The other, who funded my summer work, who I had a class with in the past, and who I am working with on my senior thesis, is an assistant professor in astrophysics.

I'm wondering if it would make more sense to have two individual letters, especially since the two of them work in drastically different fields and I have drastically different working relationships with the two of them. On the other hand, an individual letter from the staff scientist might not mean very much, which is why I was wondering about having him co-write a letter.

(I am currently working on getting a fourth/potentially-third letter from another professor who knows me fairly well and who works in one of the two fields I will be applying to for grad, just in case.)
