cambridge physics/funding

Hi, I just started reading this board, and I thought I'd post my question in case anybody can help...
I got into cambridge for physics, the 1 year thing before the phd program (i'm an american student) and i applied for financial aid from them but it's not at all guaranteed and kind of hard to get. i also didnt apply for NSF in the fall, which was pretty stupid but i cant do much about that now. i was wondering if anybody knew about grants or scholarships I could apply for now since there's no way I can afford to go to there and pay...
anyway, good luck to everyone applying and waiting to hear (i also applied to 5 schools in the states and have yet to hear, which i'm a little concerned about...)

Hi, we are in the same boat, I am waiting to hear from the trusts and I do not think that there is anything else to do. By the way, I am from asia so I guess that there are several uniqe studentship for americans that I did not hear about.

Take a look at this website :

Is the one year thing equivalent to a US master's degree?

I thought Bill Gates had fellowships for Cambridge which included
US students. I guess you can search for Bill Gates on the main
Cambridge web site.

i'm not sure what the 1 year thing is... i applied to do a phd and they accepted me to a CPGS program (certificate of post graduate studies) which i looked up and it said that a lot of phd programs there make you do that for a year and then you can do your phd.
there is a gates scholarship, which you are considered for when you apply for the financial aid thing on the application. i'm pretty sure i didnt get it though because i probably would have heard by now...
oh well! i guess all i can do is wait at this point. thanks for the link, nb. let me know if you hear about funding, good luck!

Did you receive a official letter from the BGS or whether they sent you an e-mail ?!
regarding to the gates scholarship, how do you know that the they already decide. I think that they didnt because it seems that would update the self-service website.

i found out on the selfservice website, but i guess they will send me something in the mail. it hasnt arrived yet.
for the gates: i think for people who are being considered for it in the US are interviewed sometime in february and they are informed before that that they'll be interviewed. i'm not sure how it works in other countries.
hopefully it will work out though!

Last week they wrote me this (in the e-mail) :

"There is some delay in processing the decision due to a technical difficulty with our database. We would like to notify you that we will be offering you a place on the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mathematics ..."

I think that they did not pass my application to the collages and to the trusts yet. I did not receive any letter too..

hmm, that's weird. my application for the trusts status was updated to "application forms sent" i think but i havent heard anything. i wish they would inform us a little better. i have no idea if i can expect to get funding or if i should just assume i wont be going there...
oh well!

I just received an email from cambridge :

"The Cambridge Trusts have received your GRADSAF from the Board of Graduate Studies and will now consider your application for all the awards for which you are eligible."
