Applying without research experience

Hi,
I got my BS astrophysics from a top 20 school with a 3.1 GPA.
I got a 800(q) 650 (V)
and 920 (physics) on my GRE
I'm applying for a physics PHD with interest in theoretical elem particles.
But my problem is I don't have any undergraduate research xp...
(I spent my summers traveling/backpacking)
My question is how much does that affect my chances?
And right now I'm focusing on the top 20-30 ranked programs.. UCSD, NYU, UW madison... Is it reasonable for me to have my sights on these places?
Thanks.
