I go to a mostly liberal arts school whose sciences aren't as strong as the other departments. I keep on hearing that research is important for graduate school, but the amount I would get at my university is limited. Are there any external organizations that could potentially offer some sort of research opportunity? My interests lie mainly in nanotechnology. Many thanks for any responses.

Thanks for the reply. Have you or anyone else applied and been accepted into one of these programs? I would like to know how selective the programs are, and seeing as they offer a nice stipend to each student, it would seem as if it would be hard getting into one. So far I've listed 6 programs that offer research in my area of interest. Would this be enough?
