Switching research groups?

Post by mattburger » Mon May 13, 2024 8:47 pm

Hi, I'm a rising junior who is starting research with a faculty member at my school, and the research I'm going to be doing with her will be more on the experimental side of physics. However, I'm worried about if I don't end up enjoying the research, and decide to join a more theoretical lab next year. Would this affect my chances of graduate school admission? I know that doing one lab for multiple years looks better than jumping around labs, so if I do decide to join a more theoretical lab group next year, would you recommend taking a gap year to continue with that group?
