Assessment of general GRE score

Post by Jasonsq » Wed May 01, 2019 7:53 am

Hi, i am an international student in UCB double majoring in math and physics. I just took my first general GRE test with a verbal:159, and quantitative: 169 and wonder how competitive this score is for a physics phd application? In other words, do I need to take the test again to boost my verbal score?

It is not the only factor determining your admission, and suppose it does play a factor, the required score really depends on your school choice.
I do not think you should retake it, as there'll be risk of having a lower quant score instead.

By the way, since you are an international student at UCB, I suggest you ask your question to your professor or counselor.
Their words will be much more credible than all of us here, because they might've been in the admission committee. UCB is a reputable school and if you ask correctly, the answer would be quite useful for your reference to other top schools.
