Universities Organized by Research Area

Hi everyone. I haven't posted much in this forum, but I've realized that I frequently perform searches for research topics and what schools have graduate programs in those topics. I would like to start a thread that amalgamates all of this knowledge so people have a good idea of what schools to apply to for their prime research interest. So, I will organize lists of schools for each major research area for which they have an established department. Please let me know if a better resource for this already exists!

I will try to annotate each school with the particular strain of research they do; i.e., LQG = loop quantum gravity, QO = quantum optics...
I feel that they should be ordered by relative prominence in the respective area of research. The number in parenthesis will indicate roughly the number of faculty per research area.

CU-Boulder, Rochester, Arizona, Laval are major AMO experimental schools, whereas Wisconsin is a foremost plasma school. Of course, UIUC, UCSD, Minnesota are big condensed matter schools...

Thanks! I'll be slowly updating this with more ivy league schools, annotations on subdisciplines, notable faculty, etc...
