How do I decide where to go?
How do I decide where to go?
I am starting to do research into graduate schools but have no idea where to start. I am interested in either nuclear physics or high energy physics, probably experimental. How do I find out what schools have good programs in these subjects? Thank you in advance!
Re: How do I decide where to go?
Depending on your profile, make a list of universities and then choose the right program.
Ask your professor to help you make up your mind.
Some online resource-
For physics rankings, check http://www.phds.org
For admission chances and automatic university selection, check http://www.missiongre.com

Re: How do I decide where to go?
This is going to sound cliche, but just look at the ranking in US News and see what it says. From there you get an idea of what schools are around and that schools like UIUC are better in certain subjects than for example Harvard or MIT. You might also want to consider Nuclear Engineering depending on what you want to do.
Then I would always look at large experiments in the area you want to work in... lets say HEP Experiment... Check ATLAS, CMS, etc. and see what schools work in that

Re: How do I decide where to go?
Going to a school that fits your interests is important, but also important is to make sure you like the town/city you will be living in. You will be living there for quite some time, be sure that you enjoy location as much as you enjoy the school itself.
