I am currently a graduate student at UConn. I applied to different schools this year because I want to work on gravity and we don't anybody doing that at UConn.
I only got an offer from UW-Madison, and probably won’t get in anywhere else. One of my professors today told me that UW-Madison only has a ‘‘slightly better reputation than UConn’’ and is not worth the hastle of swithcing schools and moving to a new state...etc.
I only arrived in the US a year and a half ago, so I am not really sure how highly regarded each school is. But it seems to me, from rankings at least, that UWM has a much better reputation than UConn and therefore might help me land better postdocs. Does anybody have any opinion about that? Is UWM really a very good school? (If it makes any difference, I’m specifically asking about HEP-TH).
Thank you very much for your help.
