Profile evaluation please!!!

Post by anonymous_dude » Tue Nov 30, 2021 2:38 pm

I need to know if my list is too prestigious for my profile. Don't hold back. I'm running out of time to add more safeties. I personally think I might need more.

Undergrad Institution: Private Research University in US (Top 45 overall in country. Good physics rep)
Major(s): Physics
Minor(s): Math
GPA in Major: Unknown
Overall GPA: 3.77
Length of Degree: 4
Position in Class: Idk but probably good?
Type of Student: White Male Domestic

GRE Scores: hahahahahhahahahahahahha

TOEFL: N/A

Research Experience: Currently - working remotely for a large research lab in CA writing custom sims for quantum networks design, will join them in the summer as an in-person intern. Summer 2021 - I worked on a military research contract on quantum networks, resulting in an extensive confidential report which I authored, although it cannot be shared publicly. Summer 2020 - Interned for a quantum computing startup company, wrote simulations of quantum memory and performed tabletop optical experiments. Home institution - Research for the past three years in a lab focused on Nitrogen Vacancy Center research, worked with optical instruments and ran experiments. Covid during my junior year pretty much ruined chance of publishing with them. Also conducting my physics capstone project on quantum-backed cryptocurrencies, did a talk at a conference and will also be presenting at APS March Meeting.

So, I'd say my biggest advantage is my research is very focused on what I want to do, and is overall really good. I have a mix of academic, private, and military research. However, no "real" publications  This I think will be the main factor in places choosing to reject me.

Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Deans high honor every year. 50% tuition scholarship.

Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Co-founder of my schools undergraduate research society.

Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Nah.

Special Bonus Points: Really good letters of rec from the CEO of the company I worked for, my lab PI, and my capstone advisor.

Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Idk I'm taking a grad math course if that helps haha.

Applying to Where: I just wanna do cool quantum stuff man

Reach
Harvard - Quantum Engineering - Quantum Networks
Chicago - Quantum Engineering - Quantum Networks - I've networked a lot with these guys and had one-on-one zoom calls.
UIUC - Physics - Quantum Networks
Stanford - Physics - Quantum Networks
Princeton - Physics - Quantum Networks

Target
UT Austin - Physics - Quantum Networks - Hoping this is a safety but who really knows anymore...
UT Austin - EE - Quantum Networks
UCLA - Physics - Quantum Networks
Duke - Physics - you guessed it...Quantum Networks
Boulder - Physics - Quantum Networks

HIdden information aside, it looks ok. When I was applying for my teaching assistant job, mine looked about the same.
