Masters degree in Europe

Hi guys..I'd applied to places in the US but unfortunately could not make it(possibly due to lack of publications maybe?). I had also applied to masters places in the Europe(Cologne and Hannover). However, my guide advises against going for this and recommends going for a research position at some institution and applying in the next cycle. I shall be grateful for any inputs in this regard..
