What is your perception of the University of Utah's physics program?

Hey everyone! So I was wondering how people view the strength of the U's physics and astronomy programs. What aspects do you like, dislike? What is its perception, from the eyes of undergrads, grads, and professors from your school?

It looks like this question was never answered.

Despite an intense rivalry with the University of Utah, most people at my school agree that they're a good school, and they have some particularly good graduate programs (math and computer science come to mind, and they also have strong business offerings and a good medical school).

Their physics program is not necessarily one of those. They have some excellent researchers, particularly in astronomy, but they are extremely lopsided in their offerings despite being a large department. There are only a handful of research opportunities available outside of astronomy and condensed matter. They were also recently censured by the university for habitual mismanagement and mistreatment of their graduate students, so that's something to keep in mind.

That being said, if you're interested in astronomy or condensed matter, the U isn't necessarily a bad place to look. They're accepting graduate students again, presumably after some administrative restructuring and policy changes.
