Conflicting information on how PGRE is scored

Post by kyle_is_cool » Mon Oct 14, 2019 2:21 am

Hello everyone,

I have been looking online for how the PGRE is scored and many sources say that your raw score is determine by the number of questions you answered correctly minus 1/4 of the questions you answered incorrectly. However, the ETS website says that for the subject tests, the incorrectly answered questions are not counted against you. I have leaned toward believing the ETS website for obvious reasons and am assuming they changed the way the subject GRE is scored but I would like confirmation from people who have taken it in 2018 or 2019 so please let me know.

Thanks for your time,
Kyle

Well, the rule to count correct answers changed 2 o 3 years ago. Currently, as the ETS states there is not discounts for any possible mistake.

This rule applies for all people, so there is not advantages or disadvantages for anyone. Perhaps, It is more comfortable for takers. However, in a statistical sense the GRE only wants to order the best score to worst. So, this objetive does not change at all.
