a statics problem

Post by andrei1293 » Sun Apr 14, 2019 5:15 pm

I have this problem https://imgur.com/xu45Vei .

I know G, alpha and mu. I need to know theta for equilibrium.

My problem is that in place of the thread I need to have a tension and when i write the equations of forces on all 3 axes and then I put the conditions that Ff<=mu*N (Ff-friction force, N-normal on plane, mu-friction coefficient) I end up with the tension and that does not appear in the answer.

I don't know the physics terminologies that good in english.

Could you describe the physical situation in words? I can't quite make out what's going on from the picture (in particular, what are the lines that make the angle alpha supposed to represent? But please describe the rest of the situation, too!).
